Dear SPOT-VEGETATION users,

In the frame of PROBA-V, the successor of SPOT-VEGETATION, VITO & its partners developed a new portal as part of the PADUA programme. PADUA will offer an integrated sollution for Product Archiving, Distribution and User oriented Access.
Today, we are proud to announce the release of the new distribution portal www.vito-eodata.be.

For SPOT-VEGETATION users, the main difference with the previous portal is, that all VEGETATION products older than three months are freely available: the P-, global S1 and S10 data (as global or regional extract product; large orders, need approval, see FAQ). Also after the end of the SPOT-VEGETATION mission, scheduled for May 31th of 2014, these products will continue to be distributed through this platform.
D10 data will no longer be distributed via this new portal. Users that would like to download these data are kindly resuested to contact the Helpdesk.

However, there is more. Via this portal VITO will also distribute all Earth observation data & products processed by VITO. This means that you will also be able to request the decadal syntheses of MetOp-AVHRR, Envisat-Meris, and of course all PROBA-V products via this product distribution portal.

Please visit the website regularly as new collections will become available through this portal.

You can register yourself for free at www.vito-eodata.be.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Thank you for your cooperation and we wish you a lot of inspiring EO work using our new product distribution platform.

Kind regards,

VITO's Image Processing Centre

Dear users,

In view of the continuity of the SPOT-VEGETATION mission, harmonization studies on processing methods and products are being performed on the current CTIV processing chains.

This critical review of methods will soon define the post-processing principles of the entire archive.

The post-processing itself will start after the end of the VEGETATION mission, which will last till the end of 2013 or possibly till mid 2014. One key objective of this re-processing operation is to ensure full consistency with the processing chain for Proba-V that will be launched early 2013.

Please find attached more information.

Kind regards,

OBITUARY NOTICE:
It is with great sadness that the VEGETATION crew learned that Gilbert Saint, one of the founders of the VEGETATION mission, passed away on 10 May 2012. We will fondly remember him for his valuable legacy, the conscientious way of working and we pass our condolences to his family
.

May 9th, 2012
On May 9 2002 this First image was taken by the VEGETATION2 instrument onboard the SPOT5 satellite.
This satellite was launched exactly 10 years ago on May 4 2002. It is a follow-on to the first payload operating on
SPOT 4 since 1998 to ensure data continuity. Earlier this week, the VEGETATION1 instrument stopped recording images. Its last image dates from 29 April 2012.

February 22nd, 2012
Due to SPOT5 power supply constraints, it has been decided to temporarily reduce programming and downloads for VGT2. There is no VGT2 programming during one day, 2012-02-22.

Only one pass during this day is planned for VGT2, allowing to dump acquisitions remaining in memory.

Return to nominal programming and downloading is planned for 2012-02-23, unless we are noticed of the contrary.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

PhD application “15 years of SPOT/VEGETATION”

In the frame of the 15th anniversary of the VEGETATION programme, a contest is organized to employ a PhD student at the Flemish Institute for Technological Research (VITO), to work on the extensive VEGETATION (VGT)-archive for a 4-year period. Also PROBA-VEGETATION (PROBA-V), the VGT follow-on mission can be part of the PhD research subject. The latter is however not a prerequisite. The PhD candidate selected in this contest will be fully funded by VITO.

For more information, please consult this document and PowerPoint presentation, describing the contest, or contact walter.debruyn@vito.be

Please note that all the fields and documents of the application must be in English, as applications are reviewed by international experts.

New VEGETATION website online

June 28th, 2010
The VGT1 archive has been reprocessed in order to be consistent over time with the reprocessed VGT2 archive.  All P, S1 and S10 data have been recalculated. For VGT1, the difference between the old and new data is very small, a statistical analysis of the data will be carried out. The D10-archive hasn’t been reprocessed due to the complex nature of the processing of these data.  More information about the recalibration can be found in FAQ  3.4 - 3.7

20 November 2007 (technical issue regarding the VEGETATION data)
Half november, we were informed by CNES that there was a problem with the geolocation accuracy of the SPOT5 satellite. Investigation shows that from 04 October onwards, the geocorrection of the VEGETATION data does not have the accuracy as it should have. Accuracy is in the range of 1 to 2 km instead of the usual 300m.
The S10 of 11 november will have a short delay due to the manual geocorrection for the first 5 days of this ten days product.  The S10 of 01 October, 11 October, 21 October and 01 November will be reprocessed as soon as possible, also with the manual geocorrection to achieve the standard accuracy of 300m.

12 September 2007 (VGT2 active)
All the problems are solved, VGT2 is operational again.

12 September 2007 (VGT2 active)
- Due to technical problems on the VGT2 payload we do not receive anymore VEGETATION data since 06/09/2007 13:16:52 UTC.
- On 08/09/2007 VGT1 shall be re-activated.
- The synthesis of 01/09/2007 will be based on VGT2 images only.
- We apologize for this inconvenience.
- The problem is currently being investigated; we will inform you you as soon as the VGT2 payload will be operational again.

09 Januari 2007 (VIP toolbox)
The VEGETATION Image Processing Toolbox ("VIP-Toolbox") is a collection of executable tools and an application programming interface (API) which has been developed to facilitate the utilization and processing of VEGETATION data. The purpose of the Toolbox not to duplicate existing commercial packages, but to complement them with functionality dedicated to the handling of VEGETATION products. The Toolbox is released as Open Source to give users the change to get the most out of the Toolbox and the VEGETATION products.
